Litchfield Borough Awarded $800,000 Grant

The Borough of Litchfield is excited to announce that it is receiving an $800,000 grant from the
Connecticut Department of Transportation’s (CTDOT) Community Connectivity Grant program.
The funds will be used for the Litchfield Borough Sidewalk Enrichment Plan.
“This grant provides the Borough with greater ability to expand and repair our sidewalks,” said
Gayle Carr, the Warden of the Borough of Litchfield. “The sidewalks within the Borough are
critical to the continued success of our community. Through this project, we hope to increase
residents, businesses, and visitors connectivity to one another by improving safety, accessibility,
and efficiency.”
The Litchfield Borough Sidewalk Enrichment Program, partially funded by this grant, includes
extending the East Street sidewalk to the Wells Run Senior and Disabled Housing facility for
easier access by those residents to the Borough center. It will also include improvements to
Woodruff Street, increasing accessibility to Center School for students, families, and people
walking to the Litchfield Farmers Market. The project beyond this grant will include additional
sidewalk extensions, safety improvements, and ADA accessibility standards throughout the
Borough.
“We are grateful to the CTDOT for recognizing the importance of this project, along with the
members of the Town of Litchfield, our State House Representative and State Senator, who
supported the submission of the grant” said Sr. Burgess Stephan Krucker, who was central in
the grant preparation and submission.
The Borough strives to protect and preserve the Litchfield Green and the historic nature of the
Borough while ensuring that the needs of its residents and the citizens of Litchfield are met with
a vibrant, functional and attractive town center.
